Elska is a project devoted to sharing our voices and our bodies through honest photography and personal stories. Through our publications, we take you to different cities around the world, introduce you to a dozen or so local guys, and let you get to know them and a bit about gay life in their city. Filled with positivity, sincerity, ad-free and lovingly made, Elska is an independent gay mag that you can truly be proud to own.
Elska Magazine is our flagship product, your key to discovering each Elska city through its local boys and local stories. They are over 150 pages, split into individual chapters that focus on a local guy, filled with evocative images taken of him in the city and at home, plus the story he wrote for us. The experience is most intimate, letting readers feel like they’ve travelled there with us and really gotten to know these men.
Our seventeenth Elska issue in our seventeenth city, this is out first to head Down Under, meaning we’ve now put Elska’s footprint on every inhabited continent. We chose Perth for the honour of our first Aussie issue, the most isolated big city in the world, and also a bit of an underdrog city.
Inside these 176 pages, which makes this our biggest issue ever, you’ll meet seventeen local men, photographed in their homes and in their neighbourhoods, giving an honest and intimate glimpse into the lives of these local gay men. They’re shown dressed in their own style, or sometimes not dressed at all, and they are always presented as they are without airbrushing, revealing different types of natural beauty.
Each of the men also wrote a personal story to accompany their photospreads, making your reading experience even more intimate. Topics are varied, but they include Owey S’s depiction of an afternoon at a nude beach; Joel K’s story of his own heartlessness after a love gone sour; Jordan G’s text about the trials of dating as a trans man; Nathan T’s lament about struggling to lay in his now empty bed after a break-up; Matthew K’s tale of trying to tackle his social awkwardness by going out to a drag show; Pär-Johan G-R’s musings about differences between Australia and his native Sweden; and Aaron A’s piece about moving on after suffering a stroke.
