Dan recounts his story to them and later ‘writes’ it down. This is a purely fictional twist. The real-life prototype of “Dan Ericson” gave Sean McFirnn the title and challenged him to write realistic novel for it. Instead of recounting his adventures to the author, the maso cop told Sean to torture him in the world of the novel in anyway that was credible. This the Sado-Sean joyfully did.
